Below is my policy of dealing with Nigerian people, when I was there. It may fit you when you do foreign trade in China:
1. Never trust them. Strictly comply with you policy, do not compromise for little profit. Do not be near-sight.
2. Never give in. Although you might have been working with them for long, but 1 single mistake will turn your business down, completely. Remember, once policy is made, every side should comply with it, no other excuses, no exceptions.
3. Verbally be friend with them, in a good manner. Some of them could be your partners. Even though you find any clue of cheating, don’t be angry. Such people are everywhere. Just still be friendly and don’t bite the bait.
4. Don’t quote immediately when they request. Real customer are prepared to come to you, try to find if they have anything on hand.
5. Strict payment term. If people really intend to buy, this is not the most important issue for him.
6. Remember, the cheap buyer cheap cheater. Good customer will negotiate with you to reach your bottom line, that is business skill. But if they say I want everything cheap, you got to think it over. I myself don’t do such business, for many reasons.
7. Samples. Don’t release samples without caution. Your sample might be going to your competitors, unless no one can offer better. Or you may not hear from the buyer again. Fix price first and request sample cost, no matter how cheap it is.
8. If they say a multi-million dollar project, and ask for your account info, haha, tell them you are not that lucky guy.
9. Their L/C and Bank Draft also may have problem. Be careful.
10. Last word I want to say is, black people hate us and look down upon us. So you are welcome to make money from them, if you can, and lucky enough! Best wishes.
